Diseño, forma y teoría social en clave regional: diálogos en torno a la función social del diseño
Theoretical reflections are central to any research project, as theory permeates its entire development. Analyzing issues related to the form-function dyad from a diachronic, multidisciplinary, and regional perspective necessarily leads to specifying which conceptual tools of social theory enable the approach to visual culture artifacts, including those of Graphic Design under study. The debate on the social function of design remains relevant in globalized times, in which the spatial practices resulting from the processes of production and reproduction continue to give rise to representations of spaces and spaces of representation at whose intersection we find Graphic Design. Deepening the discussion around the issue of form, engaging in a dialogue between the social sciences and design from a regional perspective, necessarily refers to a function that is social, contextual, political, and committed to the order that one wishes to perpetuate or change.
