Covid-19 Sürecinde İnşaat ve Bayındırlık Sektörünün Finansal Performansının PROMETHEE Yöntemi ile Değerlendirilmesi

The COVID-19 pandemic has had varying effects across sectors, negatively impacting some while benefiting others. One of the sectors adversely affected is the Turkish construction sector. The Turkish construction sector, with its activities worldwide, is a significant contributor to the Turkish economy. The aim of this study is to examine the changes in the financial performance and positions of firms in the BIST Construction and Public Works sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. The PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations) method, which is commonly used in financial performance measurements, was used in this context to compare performance for the 2016–2022 period. Ten different financial ratios were taken into consideration, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic were investigated. The changes in rankings indicate that the sector was impacted during the pandemic but showed a tendency to return to normal as the crisis subsided. While some firms maintained stable performance over the years, others exhibited unstable behavior. Furthermore, it was concluded that potential adjustments to the variables tested could assist decision-makers.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had varying effects across sectors, negatively impacting some while benefiting others. One of the sectors adversely affected is the Turkish construction sector.
