Vsevolod Meyerhold'un yenilikçi sahne teknikleri bağlamında tiyatro ve sinema ilişki üzerine bir inceleme: Metropolis filmi örneği
Vsevolod Meyerhold, who brought important movements to the 20th century theatre, made himself known worldwide with his acting techniques and innovative perspective on stage design and managed to deeply influence the theatre world. Although he was influenced by the acting methods developed by Stanislavski, he rejected the theatrical forms that developed from this aesthetic approach and began to experiment and implement new forms at the expense of being unconventional. Meyerhold, who introduced the biomechanical acting theory to literature, brought many new perspectives to the world of theatre on how actors can effectively present their body use and expressions on stage. Moreover, as an actor, director, educator and even a reformer, Meyerhold brought a new perspective to the field of art as one of the most influential figures of his time. The innovations brought by Meyerdold have integrated into the fabric of different branches of art, and successful products have emerged. In this context, Meyerhold is a cinema innovator who skillfully manages to connect his experience in theatre to the dynamics of cinema. His approach, which allowed the viewer to have a visual-emotional experience that was not familiar to him, contrary to current viewing habits, made Meyerhold perhaps one of the most revolutionary names of his time. In the Metropolis movie that will be examined in this study, traces of the relationship between theater and cinema can be found, and traces that left their mark on its period can be seen with its scenes and visual aesthetics, as well as its acting and storytelling style. In this context, the study aims to determine the extent to which the film was influenced by Meyerhold's experiences by examining the stage design, aesthetic understanding, actors and their acting styles of the master director Fritz Lang's film Metropolis through Meyerhold's techniques and interpretations. In the study, in which the qualitative research method and descriptive analysis were preferred as the analysis technique, it was determined that there were traces of Meyerhold's theater thoughts (the relationship between the actors' representations and biomechanical acting was observed) and stage understanding (the constructivist stage understanding could be observed in the film) in the movie Metropolis.
