Synthetic approaches to heterometallic complexes of platinum and rare earth elements
In this thesis work we followed three main research lines, all aimed at the obtainment of luminescent platinum-lanthanide species. The first one focused on the preparation of complexes based on bisesteric derivatives of DTPA, potentially with theragnostic applications. Starting from aminopyridinic complexes of platinum (IV) presenting a terminal hydroxyl group, we carried a nucleofilic attack on DTPA- bisanhydride, obtaining metalloligands able to strongly chelate lanthanides. The purpose of the second line was the usage of pyrazine N-oxide as heterotopic divergent ligand, developing Pt(IV)-Ln species with thermometric properties. We investigated the use both of d-based and f-based metalloligands. Finally, we conducted preliminary studies on the coordination of carboxylates presenting divergent coordination sites, in particular nicotinates and isonicotinates, on Ln(β-dike)3 moieties. The free pyridinic nitrogens proved to be able to attack dinuclear platinum species having bridged alogens, resulting in the obtainment of heterometallic compounds.
