A possível concessão de personalidade jurídica à Amazônia. Um caminho para sua proteção

The purpose of this article is to study a possible legal response to environmental damage, considering its measurable nature. Specifically, it examines the path of legal personality recognition, as well as its meaning for the Amazon because of its immeasurable value for biodiversity, climate and people, especially for indigenous communities. In this way, steps and issues that need to be considered to achieve recognition of the Amazon as a subject of law are analysed. This is an ambitious measure as it would represent a revolution in the legal sphere, since the Amazon territory include different countries, each one with its own environmental legislation. Moreover, it would enable an effective response to the destruction of the Amazon as it would come to possess rights and values of its own, independent of human utility or benefit.
