Prijevod s komentarima s posebnim naglaskom na vlastite imenice

This thesis comprises five translations with commentary. Excerpts from three books were translated from English into Croatian (Skyfaring: A Journey with a Pilot, On Freedom, The Great Hippopotamus Hotel), and two from Croatian into English (Mali i Levijatan, Priča sa zapadne strane: tipologija srednjebrončanodobnog keramičkog materijala s prostora zapadne Slavonije). The commentary focused mostly on the translation of proper nouns, as translators are sometimes unsure whether phrases belonging to this group should be translated or not. During the translation process I found that it was crucial to make a distinction between actual proper nouns and fictional ones, i.e. neologisms, as well as to bear in mind the target reader, their previous knowledge and expectations, and what information was necessary for them.
