L’inculturation ou la contextualisation du message chretien en pays gouin (burkina faso), 1938-2022

The Ciraamba or Gouin settled on their current site in Burkina Faso from the XVIIIe and XIXe centuries. It was from this date that they began to live in this country the different aspects of their culture. The advent of Christianism Churches in Gouin country dates back to the late 1930s. In fact, the expansion of the Church of the Christian Alliance dates from 1938, that of the Catholic Church from 1942 and that of the Church of the Assemblies of God to 1977. From theses different dates, members of the Gouin ethnolinguistic community converted to Christianism whether they were Evangelical or Catholic. Since the end of the 1970s, and especially from 1990 onwards the current situation of the Catholic Church has been strongly marked by inculturation that is the adaptation of Christian message to a country of mission. Among Evangelicals, the concept use is the contextualization of the Christian message. Thus, the Christianized Ciraamba populations, led by priest and pastors, have undertaken initiatives to reappropriate the Christian message. All this raise to the following questions. How is the inculturation or contextulization of the Christian message experience in Gouin country ? What aspects of Cerma culture have been affected by this inculturation or contextualization ? To answer these research questions, we have opted for a qualificative approach, base on observation, oral investigations, the exploitation of archives and existing scientific documents. This contribution aims to show the close link between culture and religion. Ultimately, it emerged that the Ciraamba populations have reappropriated Christianity through inculturation or contextualization. This has concerned the language through the translation of the New Testament into Cerma, marriage through the development of inculturated Gouin mariage. To these must be added the Christianization of sacred cerma balafon.
