Hacia los indicios de una nueva modalidad de lo trágico en El castigo sin venganza (1631)

One of the aspects that distinguish Lope´s dramatic activity in his «cycle of senectute» (1627-1635) is his particular interest in writing dramas in the «Spanish style»; that is, following its own dramatic canon. Such is the case of El castigo sin venganza (1631). In this collaboration we present an analysis of the causes that led the Fenix to take this task as a personal challenge, against the opinion of those who considered him finished as a playwright. In a second instance we carry out a study of the textual resources and literay subterfuges through which the author traces the architecture of the text, based on a new sense of the tragic. We finish by explaining what are the hallmarks of this new tragicity, by examining its praxis in he text selected.
