The current legal regulation of the right to civilian firearms is carried out in accordance with the Act of the Republic of Poland «On Weapons and Ammunition» of May 21, 1999. This law defines the rules for issuing and revoking permits for possession of firearms (in the form of a license and registration card), a list of weapons that belong to the category that may be owned and used by civilians, a list of purposes and grounds for granting permits for possession and use of weapons by civilians, features of weapon registration, medical and psychological examination of persons wishing to purchase weapons, rules for the acquisition, registration, storage, disposal and deposit of weapons and ammunition, transportation within the territory of the Republic of Poland and the import of weapons and ammunition from abroad and their export abroad, as well as the rules for the possession of weapons and ammunition by foreigners, liability for failure to comply with the rules established by law.
