The results of the hydration and hardening studies of Portland cement type CEM II/A-52.5R in the presence of calcium thiosulfate (Ca2S2O3·6H2O) are presented. It has been established that this additive alters the qualitative and quantitative composition of the hydration products. Specifically, X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that at early stages of hardening, an increased amount of ettringite is formed in the cement stone, manifested as fine-dispersed fibrous crystals. The formation of such a structure leads to enhanced strength properties of the concrete, which is significant for products requiring high early flexural strength.
