Studie van de ISGMR in Kr isotopen met CAT-M actieve trefschijf
The nuclear equation of state (EoS) governs the behavior of nuclear matter by describing the nucleon binding energy as a function of variables such as nuclear density and neutron-proton asymmetry. The study of compression modes, primarily the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR), refines our understanding of nuclear incompressibility and its poorly known symmetry term, Kτ. This research focuses on experiments with krypton isotopes and aims to provide more accurate estimates of nuclear matter incompressibility, K∞, thereby addressing critical uncertainties in the field. In this project, the study of the ISGMR in 80Kr and 84Kr isotopes is carried out through inelastic scattering using deuteron probes. The experiments are conducted at the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC), Japan, utilizing the CNS Active Target (CAT-M) alongside multiple ancillary detectors. The Double-Sided Silicon Strip Detectors (DSSSD) array of Leuven, following testing and performance evaluations, is integrated into the experimental setup. This highly segmented array enhances the performance of the active target by precisely measuring the energy and position of recoiling particles. Data are analyzed using the Artemis data framework, a ROOT extension equipped with specialized processors designed to tackle unique challenges in active target data analysis. This endeavor lays a foundation for further investigations of the ISGMR across various isotopic chains and paves the way for future advancements in active target technologies, thereby deepening our understanding of nuclear matter under extreme conditions.
