Oral leukoplakia early detection and effective management
Introduction: Early detection of leukoplakia is important in preventing it from malignant transformation. Objective: The aim of this study is to enhance understanding and awareness of oral leukoplakia, focusing on the importance of early detection and the implementation of effective management strategies. Materials and methods: This study will be a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data to comprehensively analyze oral leukoplakia. It will include a retrospective review of patient records, a prospective clinical study, and laboratory analysis. Focusing on collecting relevant data, employing various diagnostic techniques, and evaluating treatment efficacy. Results: In a study of 20 patients, 70% had a history of tobacco use. Adjunctive diagnostic techniques showed high sensitivity and specificity. Non-surgical interventions improved lesions in 60%, while surgical methods resolved 70%. Overall recurrence was 20%, with higher rates in tobacco users. Patient and clinician feedback highlighted the need for better awareness and standardized guidelines. Conclusion: Early detection of oral leukoplakia significantly improves patient outcomes, with adjunctive diagnostic techniques enhancing accuracy. Both non-surgical and surgical treatments are effective, though recurrence rates are higher in patients with continued tobacco use. Comprehensive patient education, regular follow-ups, and standardized guidelines are essential for successful management and reducing malignant transformation risks. Key words: oral leukoplakia, tobacco use, malignant transformation
