Microbial Diversity in Soil
In this experiment microbial diversity was studied using soil from a residential backyard. Different bacteria was looked at within the soil but specifically the antibiotics within it. Many different techniques were used during this experiment. Serial dilution was done first to isolate microbial populations. A master plate was created as a way to organize the antibodies. ESKAPE pathogens were used for antibiotic screenings to see if antibiotics can inhibit safe relatives. Once zones of inhibition are found to determine the specific bacteria PCR is used to amplify sequences and then metabolic tests are done. These methods will help to find potential antibiotics within the soil.
