Cold atmospheric plasma as an alternative decontaminant to control healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance - significant potential that can be realised globally

<p dir="ltr">Healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs) are an important adverse event arising from health care, especially after admission to hospital. A European survey of HCAIs in 1332 acute hospitals in 2022-2023 found that 7.1% of patients had an infection [1]. The most common infections were respiratory tract infections (29% of the total), urinary tract infections (19%), surgical site infections (16%) and bloodstream infections (12%).
