Cesty vody - ako historické akvadukty menili krajinu

The ability of ancient architects and engineers to ensure the supply of drinking water over long distances is admirable even today. Aqueducts are one of the most significant construction achievements of the ancient Romans, because where there was water, there was life. Over six centuries, they spread throughout the Roman Empire, and some are still in operation today. Despite the same historical context, their fates differ in preservation, restoration, and integration into modern environments. Some are at least partially preserved and still serve to transport water. In other cases, material from ancient aqueducts was used to construct new buildings or structures. In some areas, ancient aqueducts have found new uses as parts of modern water supply or irrigation systems, or have been incorporated into landscape architecture as aesthetic or historical elements. However, many have been altered, damaged, or destroyed over the centuries due to natural factors, military conflicts, or gradual deterioration.
