Background: Contextual framework: The prevalence of Internet use is increasing, which can generate positive or negative social effects; therefore, it is important to have tools to identify addictive behaviors in Internet use. Objective: To validate the questionnaire of experiences related to Internet use in adolescents in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Methodology: Cross-sectional descriptive design with a sample of 258 students selected through stratified random sampling. A Personal Data Questionnaire and the Internet-Related Experiences Questionnaire (CERI) were used. Descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis by the multiple principal component extraction method and confirmatory factor analysis were used for the analysis. Results: The two-factor model with a second-order factor presented an acceptable fit (χ2(34) =63.718; p<.001; CMIN/DF=1.874; CFI=.905; TLI=.875; RMSEA=.061; AIC=105.718 / 110.000 / 379.240). The two resulting factors were labeled interpersonal conflicts and intrapersonal conflicts. Conclusion: The CERI can be used in any age group and is an early detection instrument applicable in any context.
