TRADUCCIÓN DEL PRÓLOGO Y CAPÍTULO I DE LA CRÓNICA DE D. PEDRO, DE FERNÃO LOPES
Known as the father of Portuguese historiography, Fernão Lopes wrote during the first half of the 15th century in a period where Portuguese, as a language, was considered archaic. In three chronicles, which yet remain, Lopes unfolds his characters’ deeds in a pleasant fashion. Although he is considered a major writer during the Portuguese Middle Ages, his work has not been translated into Spanish, and, beyond the narrow bounds of medievalist circles, he remains largely unknown. As a brief sample, I present today the prologue and first chapter of Chronicle of King D. Pedro I (Crónica de D. Pedro).
