A Southern Strategy? The 2010s' Multilateral Diplomacy Reform Drive as Systemic Layering

In 2010-16, multilateralism underwent renewed procedural experimentation, with attempts to foster transparency, participation, and more substantive talks. This was also a time when a seemingly ascendant Global South became more assertive on its demands for greater representation in global governance. This dissertation asks: 1) why did these experiments occur how and when they did? 2) to what extent and how were preexisting reformist political projects influential on and enacted by such events?

Abstract

In 2010-16, multilateralism underwent renewed procedural experimentation, with attempts to foster transparency, participation, and more substantive talks. This was also a time when a seemingly ascendant Global South became more assertive on its demands for greater representation in global governance.
