Screening Microbes for Future Generations
Antibiotic resistance is a primary area of concern for medical professionals all over the world. In this project we are trying to assist the Tiny Earth Project by identifying new microbes for potential antibiotic uses. I personally chose soil from my front yard, near a large tree because I hoped it could have potential of many different types of microbes. Throughout this experiment I have screened candidates through serial dilution, screened against safe relatives to determine zones of inhibition and narrowed results down to a final potential candidate for genetic testing. I am hopeful during this research I have identified a potential bacterium for antibiotic cultivation that will help many generations to come.
