THE REALIZATION OF A NANOPARTICLE SYSTEM WITH ANTIMICROBIAL ACTION AND ITS INVOLVEMENT IN THE MORPHOLOGY AND FUNCTIONALITY OF ORAL TISSUES

Aim of the study The research results demonstrate the possibility of encapsulating a synthesized compound in nanometric particles – micelles – without losing its antimicrobial activity, and being able to be released in a controlled/sustained manner in physiological environments, thus ensuring increased efficiency in the treatment of oral cavity conditions. Materials and methods The active pharmaceutical ingredient of 1-(5́-nitrobenzimidazol-2́-yl-sulfonyl-acetyl)-4-aryl-thiosemicarbazides, was synthesized and fully characterized in personal publications. Poloxamer – P127, hydrophilic copolymer, purchased from Sigma Aldrich (MO, USA). Human fibroblast cell line – provided by Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, MA, USA). Results. A new, absolutely original nanoparticulate system was developed, based on the ability of Pluronic to micellize, which proved capable of highly effectively encapsulating the compound selected as the most active antibacterial among those synthesized. The designed micellar system is non-cytotoxic and hemocompatible, properties proven by the cell viability test on fibroblasts, respectively by the hemolysis test. Conclusions Micelles loaded with the biologically active principle exhibit antibacterial activity on both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, with the most intense activity being against Staphylococcus aureus.
