Uncovering me
In this audio documentary, Iranian women who were raised to wear the hijab from the age of nine reflect on the deeply personal and often painful decision to unveil after immigrating to the West.Through intimate first-person narratives, we explore how the hijab-once worn out of faith, habit, or family expectation-became a symbol of restriction, cultural belonging, and ultimately, resistance. As these women step into new identities, they confront fear, guilt, and the weight of familial and social judgment.Their stories unfold against the backdrop of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Iran, offering a powerful look at how private acts of defiance ripple outward to challenge systems of control-and reshape what it means to be seen.
