Improving the accuracy of peak building response estimated from accelerometer data for steel frames using SDOF analysis

Maximum displacement from acceleration integration is often smaller than\nits true. This paper presents an approach for correcting the maximum representative\ndisplacement of a steel structure obtained from floor acceleration data by fusing with the\nlow-frequency displacement component estimated from equivalent SDOF analysis.\nNonlinear time history analysis of a 5-story steel structure under various earthquake records\nwere conducted for validation. The results show that the maximum displacement errors\nwere reduced remarkably, especially for cases with large nonlinear deformation.

Abstract

Maximum displacement from acceleration integration is often smaller than\nits true. This paper presents an approach for correcting the maximum representative\ndisplacement of a steel structure obtained from floor acceleration data by fusing with the\nlow-frequency displacement component estimated from equivalent SDOF analysis.\nNonlinear time history analysis of a 5-story steel structure under various earthquake records\nwere conducted for validation. The results show that the maximum displacement errors\nwere reduced remarkably, especially for cases with large nonlinear deformation.
