Health and Climate Change Research Ethics for the Global Majority
The ethics of health and climate change research include and go much beyond the conduct of research studies. This paper draws on philosophy of science, epistemology, and politi-cal philosophy, particularly healthy equity and justice literature, to argue for situating health and climate change research into broader social and global ethics. It highlights how scien-tific research is affected by social and global contexts, and presents the neglect of health issues of the majority of the population of the world. While advocating for global delibera-tions on the ethics of climate research, it offers two starting principles. First, research should be geared toward the majority of the population in the world, and within countries. Second, research should have a meaningful focus on addressing the climate harms hap-pening to people now.
