Hey Jude, Take a Sad Antibiotic and Make It Better
Antibiotic resistance is a growing global crisis, and new antibiotics must be discovered before it is too late. Using the Tiny Earth Network program, I found possible antibiotic-producing microbes from the soil near my apartment. One of these microbes, which I named Jude, was isolated and studied extensively due to its ability to create zones of inhibition against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas putida, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus subtilis. Whatever chemical Jude exhibits could help create antibiotics that fight against deadly pathogens such as MRSA.
