Golven van Emoties: Emotionele Mechanismen die Kustlandschappen Verbinden met Welzijn
Stemming from the literature on the link between nature and wellbeing, the PhD aims to investigate the emotional mechanisms underlying the effects of coastal landscapes on well-being and pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. Current research on blue spaces has focused on physical, social, environmental, and cognitive dimensions. However the emotional dimension remains unclear, particularly in terms of complex emotional processes. This PhD focuses on three emotional states, i.e., awe, nostalgia, and nature connectedness. These emotional states potentially explain why contact with the coast boosts our well-being. We additionally evaluate potential moderators of the effects of the coast on emotions and well-being, specifically presence of plastic, income level, and engagement level.
