Development of a steering model with focus on Real-Time application
The thesis revolves around the development of a steering model on two platforms, Simulink and ADAMS Car, to be used for Real-Time applications on driving simulators. The outcoming model is: 1) Realistic, that means that all the main features of the steering are represented. 2) Plug & play with commercial softwares, like VI CarRealTime and Matlab. 3) Real-Time capable. The work focuses on the mechanical aspects of the steering. Particular focus is set on: 1) Friction modeling, for future Steering Feel evaluations. 2) Flexibility, that means that the majority of the features can be toggled on and off, so that complexity is adjustable. 3) Variable Gear Ratio between rack and pinion. 4) Steer-by-Wire capability. The milestones of the work are: 1) Development of a library of friction models with following comparisons. 2) Development of the Simulink steering model. 3) Development of the ADAMS Car steering model. 4) Comparison between Simulink, ADAMS Car and VI CarRealTime's models.
