Brushing Up on Antibiotic Stewardship: Pharmacy Students Survey and Educate Dentists on Antibiotic Prescribing Guidelines and Practices

This poster presentation highlights a student-led initiative aimed at improving antibiotic stewardship (AS) among dental professionals. The project involved the development and distribution of an educational newsletter containing current AS principles, prescribing guidelines, and a knowledge-based survey. The goal was to evaluate dentists’ baseline understanding of AS tools and assess their willingness to incorporate these tools into clinical practice. Survey data revealed knowledge gaps and identified areas for targeted education, especially regarding prophylaxis decisions, penicillin allergies, and clindamycin use. Primary Audience: This presentation is intended for a professional audience at a national conference specifically, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting. It targets pharmacists, pharmacy students, educators, and healthcare professionals involved in antibiotic stewardship and interprofessional education.
