Ženski likovi u Beowulfu i Gospodaru prstenova
This thesis deals with the topic of female characters in the Old English poem Beowulf and J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Following an overview of women’s lives in Anglo-Saxon society, which birthed Beowulf, an analysis of characters is provided, including Wealhtheow and Grendel’s mother in Beowulf and Galadriel, Shelob, Éowyn, and Arwen from Tolkien’s trilogy. The characters are shown to share certain similarities with each other and with the typical roles of women in Anglo-Saxon society, namely peace-weavers and shield-maidens.
