SPORT AND GLOBALIZATION: IMPACT AND TRANSFORMATION
Globalization and sport are closely interconnected, particularly in the context of the ongoing revolution in information technology and digitalization. From the Olympic Games to major international competitions, globalization has transformed sport into a massive industry, sparking increased interest in the global management and organization of sporting events. This transformation is also reshaping sport itself, influencing the rules of the game, training methods, performance tracking, and even the technical aspects of on-field play. This paper aims to explore the impact of globalization on sport, which spans several areas including economics, marketing, organization, politics, and culture. Two key examples of the globalization of sport are highlighted in this paper. The first is the spread of sports culture, illustrated by the growing popularity of American football in Europe. The second example examines how globalization has contributed to the increased earnings and overall value of athletes and major sports clubs.
