PERCEPŢII ŞI EVALUĂRI ROMÂNEŞTI PRIVIND POLITICA EXTERNĂ A GRECIEI ÎN PERIOADA 1965-1975
This article will analyze the way in which the Romanian diplomacy perceived the foreign policy of Greece in the light of the internal and international political developments in the period 1965-1975, in full Cold War, with an emphasis on the period of the „dictatorship of the colonels“ (1967-1974), based on the diplomatic correspondence of the era, reflected in the Romanian archives. Perceptions of the situation in Greece are important because the decision-making process in Bucharest – regarding the development of relations with Greece – was based on the evaluations and interpretations of the internal situation of Greece and its foreign policy, in a period on which there are little used documents in Romanian historiography. An interesting aspect is related to the way the communist authorities related to a right-wing regime with similar governance methods but diametrically opposed ideologies. Another aspect that strengthened the mutual perception was the membership of alliances with antagonistic interests (NATO, respectively the Warsaw Treaty) and with an economic organization based on different principles, coordinated by the Council for Mutual Economic Aid (CAER) of which Romania was a member from 1949, respectively the Common Market, to which Greece had been associated since 1961.
