Organizational Communication: ESG Reporting in Brazil and the United States and Female Leadership in Brazilian Companies

Organizational communication plays a fundamental role in shaping corporate narratives. The first chapter of this study examines how companies in three key sectors in Brazil and the United States articulate their ESG commitments through corporate reporting, with a particular focus on their dedication to long-term value creation. Adopting a qualitative approach, the research identifies central themes and practices that reveal both convergences and divergences in sustainability disclosures between the two countries. The analysis explores how corporate reporting frameworks reflect organizational actions, the communication techniques and narratives employed to convey ESG commitments, and the core themes and critical details that define these reports. Building on this foundation, the second chapter shifts focus to the rhetorical strategies of three influential Brazilian leaders: Luiza Trajano (Magazine Luiza), Natalia Martins (beauty industry), and Rachel Maia (luxury sector). Through Rhetorical Discourse Analysis (RDA), the study examines how language, metaphors, narratives, and emotional appeals shape leadership identities and reinforce authority within Brazilian corporate contexts. By analyzing the discourse of these prominent women, the research sheds light on the challenges and opportunities they face in advancing gender equity in the country, given the persistent underrepresentation of women in leadership roles within Brazilian organizations. The findings reveal how communicative structures influence leadership perceptions and contribute to fostering inclusive corporate cultures. By bridging ESG communication and female leadership, this study provides a comprehensive perspective on how organizations construct and convey messages of sustainability and inclusion. The insights generated contribute to the broader discourse on organizational rhetoric, demonstrating how communication serves as a strategic tool for advancing corporate responsibility and leadership transformation. This research offers valuable contributions for scholars and practitioners seeking to understand the intersection of sustainability, leadership, and corporate discourse in a globalized business environment.
