Northernmost record of Parascombrops nakayamai (Synagropidae) from Suruga Bay, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan

A single specimen of a synagropid Parascombrops nakayamai Schwarzhans and Prokofiev, 2017 (89.1 mm standard length), known from Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Timor Sea, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna, was collected from Suruga Bay, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. In Japanese waters, it has previously been recorded only from Tosa Bay (Kochi Prefecture), the East China Sea west of Kyushu (Nagasaki and Kagoshima prefectures), and the Hyuga-nada Sea (Miyazaki Prefecture). Therefore, the Suruga Bay specimen represents the first record of P. nakayamai from Shizuoka Prefecture and the northernmost record for the species.
