Effects of herbs dietary inclusion on growth performance and nutrient composition of Tenebrio molitor larvae
One of the most widely used insects for food and feed purposes is Tenebrio molitor, also called yellow mealworm (MW). MW is able to convert grain byproducts as well as bakery waste material into high quality biomass. Though, several herbs may be included in some bakery former food products. Herbs can lead to an improvement of feed characteristics. However, herbs are vegetable matrix high in polyphenols, a group of phytochemicals with a defensive function against pests and UV radiation. So, herbs are known to have an insecticide effect to counteract insect herbivores.
