The 2024 Climate Tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Notes on a foreseen catastrophe

This is a brief account of the circumstances lived and observed on site by the authors during and after the climate tragedy that occurred in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, between the end of April and May 2024. It is an attempt to organize information between the beginning of the catastrophe until the end of October 2024 about what is considered one of the most violent climatic disasters in Brazil. For this purpose we conducted consultations to several official, non-official sources, fellow researchers from various universities, online newspapers, social networks and personal testimonials collected in the days during and after the catastrophe events.
