Іван Липа в українському пресовому полі: (з нагоди 160-річчя від дня народження)
The aim of this article is to study the multifaceted presence of Ivan Lypa in the Ukrainian press: the publication of his literary works and reviews, his journalistic legacy, participation in public debates, editorial work in Odesa periodicals during the epoch of the Ukrainian Revolution, and evaluation of his personality in the aspect of obituaries. Ivan Lypa’s political “I believe”, expressed in his early career in the collective publication “Profession de foi of Young Ukrainians” on the pages of the Lviv journal “Pravda” (“Truth”), formed the foundation for the statute and programme of the Tarasivtsi Brotherhood. This new political movement of Ukrainian youth from Naddnipriavshchyna proclaimed a necessity in the national development of various peoples of the Russian Empire, as well as a shift from Ukrainophilism to state-building activity. On both sides of the Zbruch river, I. Lypa’s collaboration with Ukrainian periodicals demonstrated his state nation-centric views as a figure, understanding of the press influence on the formation of national unity in conditions of colonial oppression, and the need to overcome administrative borders through the printed word. His diverse genre contributions to publications such as “Zoria”, “Dilo”, “Ukrainska Khata”, “Nova Hromada”, “Hromadska Dumka”, “Literaturno-Naukovyi Vistnyk”, “Svitlo”, etc., were united by the ideal of Ukraine’s state development, the moral imperative for social justice, and the refined literary sensitivity. Due to certain distinctive style, even his journalistic articles revealed his literary talent. Offered to Ukraine after the February Revolution of 1917, the historical possibility to implement these intention was realised by I. Lypa via cooperation with Odesa periodicals, such as “Ukrainske Slovo”, “Vistnyk Odesy” and “Vilne Zhyttia”. His journalistic output during the time of the Liberation Struggles, 1917–1921, reveals this political figure’s views on state governance, army organisation and formation of national consciousness, especially among youth. Published in the Galician press at the end of 1923, a panoramic analysis of the obituaries provides a stereoscopic view of I. Lypa’s personality and highlights his evolution as a political leader. The relevance of this research grounds not only on the commemoration of the anniversary of the writer, journalist, public figure, leader of the Tarasivtsi Brotherhood, but also on the universality of his ideas within the ideological paradigm of the nation.
