TAC-1 depletion in C. Elegans using RNAi
RNA (single stranded DNA) was fed to microscopic worms (nematodes) to inhibit a target gene. In this case, tac-1. Tac-1 is a microtubule associated-protein, and heavily involved in the cell cycle (cell division). When tac-1 is depleted in worms, the phenotype is observed and these observations can pave the way to understand TACC related cancer in humans. TACC related cancer has been seen in almost 90% of thyroid and breast cancers via over expression or under expression of TACC proteins.
