Research on dressing technology of the electroplated CBN grinding wheel for high precision gear forming grinding

ObjectiveAs a popular tool for gear grinding, the electroplated cubic boron nitride (CBN) grinding wheel has drawbacks such as low dressing precision and poor stability in batch dressing. In order to improve the tooth surface grinding precision and achieve the grinding processing level of gear tooth surfaces at grade 1 to 2 with electroplated grinding wheels, through analyzing the tooth profile, processing deviation and detection principle of the electroplated CBN grinding wheel, a composite compensation dressing strategy of “double cutter arcs + variable tooth thickness” was proposed.MethodsFirstly, the tooth profile characteristics and processing deviations of the electroplated grinding wheel were analyzed, and the corresponding dressing scheme was determined. Secondly, according to the dressing scheme, the compensation amount and tooth profile distortion were corrected, and the positional relation of the tooth profiles under different tooth thicknesses was compared. Finally, relevant test studies were carried out, and the inspection reports of the relevant tool grinding wheels were issued.ResultsVerified by tests, this strategy can realize the stable dressing of the electroplated CBN grinding wheel, and the gear grinding precision can reach above grade 2, showing great technical application potential.
