New insights and comparative morphology of the rareWestern Palearctic species Ochodaeus montanus Fuente, 1912,and its closest relative, O. inermis Reitter, 1893(Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Ochodaeidae)

The combined study of Ochodaeus montanus Fuente, 1912 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Ochodaeidae) type material and recently collected specimens from the southeastern Iberian Peninsula provided evidence for the description of new specific morphological characters, and to clarify recurring mistakes present in the literature. A comparative study between O. montanus and its closest representative, O. inermis Reitter, 1892, was completed. An updated distribution map of O. montanus as well as a bilingual identification key for the four taxa occurring within the Iberian Peninsula is given.
