An Investigation into the Media Role in Confrontation with the COVID-19 Prevention and Environmental Health

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, the new Corona with the previous name SARS-CoV-2,is positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus, that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). With the increase of infections worldwide, the World Health Organization (WHO) in a statement (Jan 11, 2019) announced the new coronavirus prevalence as the 6th public health emergency status at global level that not only was an acute threat for China, but also for the whole world. Hence, there is a need for the collaboration of health professionals, governments and the general public to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. There is a tough battle between genetic viral intelligence and the human intelligence. To win this war, in addition to adequate knowledge of this invasive and contagious virus, making adequate decisions, proper and timely control by the health systems of the countries and, most importantly, spreading awareness and educating the people about this unknown virus are essential. Concerning the health crisis management, this pandemic has highlighted the difficulties of taking into account environmental health perspectives in policies and control measures which have mostly focused on curbing the infectious outbreak. Now the question is whether our mass media have been able to play a positive role in creating healthy behaviors and teaching prevention strategies in connection with Covid-19 disease? Or has it played a neutral or sometimes negative role, such as normalizing the situation, undermining public confidence, and providing inaccurate statistics? This paper focuses on examining and explaining the different roles mass media are playing regarding Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic, which began as a health crisis, has created many health challenges that have changed the way routine health care is delivered. The COVID-19 pandemic will eventually pass. Now is a unique opportunity to identify challenges such as environmental health, health education, programs for communicable and non-communicable diseases, mass media, proper training in the field of compliance with health protocols, the requirement to inject the first to third dose of the vaccine and then reminders to all members of the society. Provide through different programs. Therefore, in these critical circumstances of Qovid-19 pandemic, at a time when the entire population of the country is involved in the corona virus prevalence and while the mass media programs are the only source of information to the public—which results in the promotion of social support and mental health— , it is hoped that the mass media will pay attention to this important issue and teach disease prevention methods to the society people and encourage them to follow the health protocols and the obligation to inject the first to third dose of the vaccine. COVID-19 will have a long-lasting impact on the environmental health field. The media are capable to provide programs and training that are understandable to all members of the community in order to improve mental health, environmental health, life expectancy and quality of life of those recovered from Qovid-19 disease.
