Home Area Networks and Energy Behaviour The Impact of HAN Port Activation on Electricity Consumption : A natural experiment on households employing a difference-in-differences model

The objective of this study is to investigate if the activation of HAN-Ports in households influences electricity consumption behaviour, the study focuses on estimating any differences in peak load hours and aggregating hourly values into daily and monthly data to estimate the overall electricity usage patterns. This is achieved through a staggered difference-in-differences model and a fixed effect OLS model with a basis in economic theory and previous literature. Electricity data was supplied by Luleå Energy AB, and temperature was gathered from SMHI (2025). Parallel trends assumption was tested graphically and is assumed to hold. The main findings in the study suggests no statistically significant relationship between the treatment variable and electricity demand in either of the models. The study aims to contribute to how real-time feedback information affects households regarding electricity demand in a natural setting
