Geoeducação com marmitas: uma breve proposta
This article addresses the geoeducational potential of marmitas, geomorphological formations in fresh rocks commonly found in semi-arid regions that serve as natural water reservoirs during drought periods. These depressions are valued not only for their ecological function but also for storing sediments that reveal the evolutionary history of the landscape, often containing fossils that enhance the local geoheritage. The main objective is to highlight these features as significant elements for geoeducation, encouragingawareness about the importance of conserving this natural heritage. The methodology includes an analysis of case studies conducted in the district of Fazenda Nova, in the municipality of Brejo da Madre de Deus/PE, in the northeastern agreste region, alongwith a comprehensive literature review on geodiversity and its various approaches. The results indicate that marmitas provide a rich setting for educational and scientific practices, offering students, teachers, researchers, visitors, and the local community a deeper understanding of geological and geomorphological processes, as well as the history of the Earth. Geotourism associated with these formations contributes to the sustainable development of local communities, while geoeducation activities promotethe recognition and appreciation of geoheritage. It is concluded that *marmitas* hold significant potential for fostering environmental education and scientific tourism, establishing themselves as strategic tools for teaching geodiversity and promoting sustainability through environmental education.
