Excesiva Contaminación Atmosférica en la Presencia de Cáncer de Pulmón en el Cantón Milagro
This study examines the relationship between air pollution and lung cancer in the canton of Milagro. The research arises from the increasing number of respiratory and oncological diseases linked to exposure to environmental pollutants, particularly in areas with high industrial activity and vehicular traffic. Objective: To analyze the relationship between air pollution and the increase in lung cancer cases in the canton of Milagro, in order to propose preventive actions and awareness campaigns to reduce associated risks. Methodology: A non-experimental study with a mixed-methods approach and descriptive-explanatory scope was conducted. A structured survey was applied to a simple random sample of 82 residents of Milagro, aged between 35 and 50 years. Data collection was carried out through a 15-question survey administered via Google Forms. The information was tabulated and analyzed using Microsoft Excel. Results: 85.4% of respondents believe there is a relationship between air pollution and lung cancer, and 89% think prolonged exposure to pollutants increases the risk of developing this disease. Although 85.4% do not report prior respiratory illnesses, there is a clear perception of risk. The responses reflect a generalized concern about the effects of pollution on respiratory health. Conclusion: The study revealed a high level of public awareness about the link between air pollution and lung cancer among the population of Milagro. While most do not have diagnosed respiratory conditions, there is recognition of the health risks posed by long-term exposure to pollutants.
