Fotboll - mer än bara en sport? : En kvalitativ studie om gemenskap bland fotbollssupporters

In today’s individualized society, many people seek belonging and community. Football has therefore become an important gathering point and a place to find this sense of community. Many football supporters choose to actively participate in supporter groups to show their support for the team, which often involves emotional commitment and long-term relationships. In this study, we aim to challenge the current stereotypes in society about football supporters by examining their role from a different perspective. The study analyzes the respondents' own experiences and perceptions of community within their supporter group. Based on qualitative interviews with football supporters from different supportergroups, this study highlights the similarities and differences between supporter groups, as well as the processes that may contribute to a sense of community. The study's results show, among other things, that setbacks strengthen the sense of community and that supporters with strong dedication come together. Additionally, supporter groups are united through an “us against them” mentality, where solidarity within the group is fostered by shared enemies. An additional significant finding was that football serves as a form of escapism from the everyday realities for the respondents. The study will also highlight some differences. This research provides a deeper perspective on supportership and its community.
