Från Neutralitet till NATO : En kvalitativ studie av Sveriges säkerhetspolitik från kalla kriget till Rysslands invasion av Ukraina
This thesis examines the security policy changes that have shaped Sweden's path from neutrality to a closer alignment with NATO membership. By analyzing three key government bills from different periods, the Cold War, the annexation of Crimea in 2014, and the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The study maps the government's reasoning and strategies during geopolitical crises. The thesis highlights the importance of government bills as primary sources for understanding political decisions and transformations. The study reveals how external threats and domestic political factors have interacted in shaping Sweden's security policy. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how small and medium-sized states navigate an uncertain international environment.
