“El Baldío del Monte, su cuarto y su ejido”. Resultado de la Desamortización del llamado “El Montecillo” en el siglo XIX

We must inform the reader that, although there is no specific historical documentation about the Cuarto del Monte (the gamekeeper's house or members' refuge) and its ejido (“lejío” to the locals of Valdefuentes), there is documentation related to the society or company formed to purchase it, called Sociedad Vecinal de la Dehesa “El Montecillo”, as recorded in the Provincial Historical Archive of Cáceres. Part of this information is reflected in the book La villa de Valdefuentes, la venta del “suelo” (land) y el “vuelo” (holm oak trees), which details the site where the Cuarto stands. Another source we rely on is the oral history passed down by our elders, who had knowledge about the suertes and peazos (plots of varying sizes) of land the area known as El Monte (to the locals of Valdefuentes) or El Montecillo (to the State Treasury).
