Kidney disorders represent one of the main causes of death in felines, which is directly related to late diagnosis and difficulty for professionals in effective therapeuticapproaches. The objective of this report was to describe the staging and treatment methods used in a case of chronic kidney disease secondary to pyelonephritis in a domestic feline. A four-year-old mixed breed feline, male, with a history of hematuria, pyuria, polydipsia, polyuria and sporadic episodes of emesis was treated at a veterinary clinic in the municipality of Cruz Alta, Rio Grande do Sul. On physical examination, the animal appeared normopneic, normocardic, mild dehydration, enlarged kidneys and pain during palpation of the flank region. The diagnosis was obtained through clinical evaluation, complementary tests such as urinalysis (isosthenuria), blood count, biochemistry, protein creatinine ratio (borderline proteinuria [0.36 mg/dL]), symmetricaldimethyl arginine (24 mcg/dL), ultrasound of the kidneys and measurement of systolic blood pressure. Based on the results, chronic kidney disease was staged as grade I.
