Effective Inclusion: Adapted Exercise Strategies for Students with Scoliosis in Physical Education

Scoliosis affects the quality of life of those who suffer from it, presenting challenges in mobility and physical activity. Developing a strategy to safely include students with scoliosis in Physical Education classes is essential. The study adopted a sequential design (QUAL-QUAN), with a mixed approach and descriptive characteristics of cross-sectional scope. In the first phase, theoretical data was collected through a documentary review of the Individual Support Documents for Inclusion (DIAC) and interviews with teachers to identify the inclusion needs of six students with scoliosis. In the second phase, surveys were conducted to assess perceptions of the strategy's effectiveness. The types of scoliosis were identified, and exercises were adapted to the individual needs of each student. The students positively perceived the strategy, highlighting its effectiveness in improving coordination and strength. They considered that the adapted exercise strategy improved their physical condition and quality of life. It was concluded that the strategy promotes the inclusion of students with scoliosis in Physical Education classes.
