Edumeet Ecotopías. IV International Conference of Architecture and Transdisciplinarity 2024. Conference Proceedings

Architectures in/for/before/against the climate crisis. Theories, practices and pedagogies for an ecology to come. Edumeet 4 Ecotopías wants to make a both pragmatic and optimistic survey of the latest academic and professional research on the relationship between architecture, ecology and the climate crisis. Nowadays, the challenges of this crisis have not only not changed but are more urgent than ever, with the construction and maintenance of the city being responsible for 35% of global consumption and 40% of CO2 emissions. Therefore, it is necessary to advance new reflections that update the imaginary that relates architecture and nature, and seek new models of adaptation of an architectural practice that must defocus its concerns towards what is more than human. The term ‘ecotopy’ (Weston, 1975) can serve as a pretext to imagine other futures from the present. With Ecotopías we want to open a great transdisciplinary conversation that can convene different approaches with which to think about future alliances between architecture and the planet: Gaia hypothesis (Lovelock, Margulis, Latour), dark ecologies (Morton), urban mining and materiality (Hebel), metabolisms and architectural circularities (Kallipoliti), cosmopolitics (Stengers, Jaque), biodiversity (Gissen), posthumanism, interspeciesism and biopolitics (Braidotti, Coccia, Haraway), minor architectures (Stoner), thermodynamics (Rahm, Ábalos, García-Germán), terraformations (Bratton), ecocartographies (Ait-Touati), anti-extractivisms (Moe), reparations, or other new perspectives to come, can help us imagine these pacts.
