De papeles y pantallas: historia y evolución de un conflicto entre lecturas
The text “Of Papers and Screens: History and Evolution of a Conflict between Readings” aims to analyze the historical and cultural transition between paper and screen reading formats, dismantling the idea of irreconcilable conflict between the two. It seeks to highlight continuities rather than ruptures, proposing an integrative vision that values the strengths and limitations of each format in educational and cultural contexts. In addition, it reflects on how technological transformations influence contemporary reading practices and their integration into teaching, glimpsing the existence of new debates, such as the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence within this context. Methodologically, a qualitative, historical-interpretative and comparative approach is used. First, a historical review is carried out that explores key milestones in the evolution of reading, from the use of the codex to the arrival of digital reading. Then, a comparative analysis of the characteristics and challenges of paper and screen supports is carried out. The text adopts an interdisciplinary perspective, using contributions from the history of reading, the theory of knowledge and technological studies. It also contextualizes the discussion in the educational field through the analysis of data from assessments such as PISA and Learning Tests. In its final reflection, the text invites us to overcome the antagonism between paper and screens, suggesting strategies to integrate both formats in a complementary way, enriching reading practices in a society in constant transformation.
