Desafíos en la gestión de áreas verdes urbanas: un estudio de caso en Cobija, Pando, Bolivia
Urban growth and development have transformed landscapes and impacted ecosystems, emphasizing the importance of creating green areas as a defense against the negative effects of human activity, such as landscape fragmentation. In this context, this case study aims to analyze the management of urban green spaces in Cobija, Pando, Bolivia. Through surveys conducted with 720 residents and local administrators, alongside policy analysis, a disconnection was identified between public appreciation of green spaces and current administrative practices.74% of respondents recognized the importance of green spaces for social and environmental well-being, while the remaining 26% lacked clarity about their function. Critically, 84% of participants were unaware of any legislation protecting these areas, indicating a gap in environmental communication and education. Only 16% could identify specific laws supporting the conservation of these spaces. Consequently, the current management of green areas is perceived as deficient, as evidenced by the lackof qualified personnel for park maintenance and inadequate implementation of conservation policies. Moreover, the absence of a proper registry of green spaces further complicates effective management. In conclusion, the article highlights the need to reform green space management policies in Cobija. It suggests the development of clear and specific regulations aligned with national environmental laws, coupled with the implementation of education and community participation programs to promote the sustainable management of urban natural resources.
